The Near West Recreation Lacrosse League is part of our Learn to Play Series, designed to introduce youth to the fundamentals of the game in a fun, clinic-style format. Unlike traditional leagues, there are no formal teams or games—just a great opportunity for kids to try out lacrosse in an affordable, non-competitive setting.

The Learn to Play Lacrosse takes place from early April through the early/mid-May. Registration opens late February and ends late-March.

Near West Recreation currently offers two divisions: Coed U9 (ages 7-9) and coed U12 (ages 10-12). Participants will be placed on teams according to their age on March 1. Kids must turn 7 before April 1.

When: U9 (ages 7-9) skill sessions will run weekly on Tuesdays from April 1 - April 29 from 7:00 - 8:00 pm.  U12 (ages 10-12) skill sessions will run weekly on Thursdays from April 3 - May 1 from 7:00 - 8:15 pm.

Locations: The skill sessions will take place at Urban Community Schools (4909 Lorain Ave) lacrosse field or gym (in the event of rain).

Equipment: Tennis shoes are required for all participants.  Balls and other equipment are provided by Near West Recreation.

Cost: $35 per child. Need-based financial assistance is available.

Volunteer Coaches: We are always in need of volunteer coaches and parents.  We are looking for adults that have general knowledge of the sport, can commit one to two hours per week to clinic sessions, and most importantly can bring positive energy to the players they coach.  As this is a new sport, we are also looking for parents or community members willing to learn simple lacrosse drills and help run them at practices. Background checks are required and paid for by Near West Recreation. We work with coaches to coordinate practice times that work with their schedule.  If interested, you can fill out the coach's form here.  We will contact you with more information.
