Coaching

We’re always looking for enthusiastic volunteer coaches to lead our youth leagues. You don’t need prior coaching experience—just a passion for working with kids, being a mentor, and learning the game!

Why Coach with Us?

  • No experience required—we provide training and practice plans if needed
  • No fundraising—we supply all equipment, team shirts, and uniforms
  • Background check covered—we pay for all coach screenings
  • Make a difference—help kids have fun, stay safe, and develop their skills

Our Coaching Philosophy

We believe youth sports should be fun, safe, and educational. More kids drop out of sports due to bad experiences than anything else, so our focus is on:

  • Kids having fun!
  • Kids being safe!
  • Kids learning the game and improving their skills.

Coaching Commitment

  • Practice & game times: Weeknight evenings (5:30–8:30 PM) & Saturdays (9:00 AM–3:00 PM)
  • Time commitment: 3–5 hours per week during the season
  • Seasons & Sports:
    • Basketball (Jan–Mar)
    • Lacrosse (April)
    • Track/Running (April – June)
    • Baseball & Softball (May–July)
    • Soccer (Aug–Oct)
    • Volleyball (Oct–Dec)

Event Volunteer

We host community events, clinics, cookouts, end-of-season celebrations, and our annual fundraiser, Casino Night.  We need volunteers to make them a success!

How You Can Help:

  • Serve food
  • Assist with games & activities
  • Supervise bounce houses
  • Help with set-up & clean-up
  • Help with Casino Night bar (serve beer and wine)
  • Event check-in

Time Commitment: 1–3 hours (typically weeknights or Saturdays)

Parent Advisory Committee (On hold until July 2025)

We’re forming a Near West Recreation Parent Advisory Committee to help strengthen our programs!

Committee Responsibilities:

  • Provide feedback on programs
  • Assist with marketing, including youth registration & coach recruitment
  • Organize an annual fundraiser to support our leagues
