Learn More About Our Organization
Created in 2013, Near West Recreation is a partnership between Ohio City Incorporated, North West Neighborhood Community Development Organization, Tremont West Development, and Metro West Development Organization. Near West Recreation offers year-round recreation programming for children of all ages as well as select programs for adults. This league operates on a sliding-scale system, with need-based financial assistance available to participants living on Cleveland's Near West side, making it accessible to all.

Sports League Information
Basketball
Our basketball season takes place from January through the end of March.
- Registration is open from November - mid-December
- Divisions for kids ages 7-15
- Most teams play on Saturdays with some weeknight games in March. U15 Girls play weeknights.
- Gyms are located on Near West Side.
- Fees are $50 per kid. Financial assistance available.
Learn to Play - Lacrosse
Our Lacrosse program is part of our Learn to Play Series. This is not a league, more so a weekly clinic series to teach the basics of the sport.
- Registration opens in late February - late March
- Lacrosse for kids ages 7-12.
- Each age group meets once a week for 60-90 minutes.
- Fields are located at Urban Community School
Baseball & Softball
Our baseball and softball season takes place from May through the end of July.
- Registration is open from Mid-March through the end of April.
- Divisions for kids ages 4-15. Age as of May 1.
- Fields are located on West Side.
- Our softball and 15u baseball divisions play against West Denison and OBALL.
- Fees are $40 and $55 (depends on division). Financial assistance is available.
Track
Our track season takes place from late April through end of June/early July (new 2025).
- Registration opens mid March - mid April
- Open to kids ages 7-14
- All kids practice together twice a week in the evening.
- Inter-squad meets take place in-lieu of practice. Community meets are usually evenings or Saturdays.
- Fees are $45. Financial assistance is available.
Soccer
Our soccer season takes place from August through the end of October.
- Registration is open from early July through mid-August.
- Divisions for kid ages 4-15. All divisions are coed. Age as of September 1.
- Practice and game fields located on the Near West Side.
- Fees are $50. Financial assistance is available.
- Most games are on Saturday mornings and early afternoons.
Volleyball
Our volleyball season takes place from mid-October through mid-December.
- Registration opens early September - early October
- Divisions for kids 9-16. All divisions are coed.
- Practice and games are located at gyms on the Near West Side.
- Fees are $50. Financial assistance is available.
- Games take place weeknights. No weekends.
